Sunday Worship Service | 1 Timothy 3:3d | Use Money To Love God And Others
Follow along with the notes below.
1 Timothy 3:1–3
This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop [pastor/elder], he desireth a good work. 2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; 3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre [dishonest gain]; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous [not a lover of money];
BLESSED BLESSER: Use money to love God and others; don’t try to use God and others to love money.
1 Timothy 6:10-12, 17-19
Luke 12:29-34
GODLY GOALS FOR USING MONEY
Without greed, covetousness, or love of money, and with contentment and trust in God's providence, a Christian can use money to:
1) Be a person of integrity , practicing what you hear and teach from the Bible.
James 1:22; Proverbs 20:7; 11:3; 22:1, 4; 14:23-24
Q: Does your use of money strengthen or weaken your integrity?
2) Be a wise, righteous person with wealth to share —now and in the future.
This is only a good pursuit when you would rather be wise and righteous than have wealth to share.
Psalm 112:1-3; Proverbs 8:18-21; 15:6; 21:20; 13:22; 21:25-26
Q: Do you use money to cease from being wise or instead to prolong it?
3) Love your family as you reflect to them God our faithful Provider.
Psalm 23:1; 1 Timothy 5:8; Proverbs 31:15-19, 21-22, 24
Q: How can you better reflect God as Provider to your family?
4) Love your neighbors as you reflect to them God our good King.
Proverbs 11:25-26; 3:27-28; 19:17; 31:20, 24
Q: How can you better reflect God as good King with your work and business dealings, purchases, gifts, giving, and overall use of money?
5) Love God’s gospel, church, and kingdom as you invest in their growing reality.
Matthew 13:44-46
Q: Do you see how this fifth goal connects with the others?
INVEST THE KING’S GOODS
Matthew 25:14-19
